Here at Ashgates we can provide you with a broad range of experience and exposure to all aspects of accounting, audit, business services, tax and corporate finance. This is how we attract and retain our clients and our people by understanding their needs and exceeding expectations.
Ashgates are formally recognised and have retained the ACCA Approved Employer Status. This means from the start of your employment your training will be of a platinum standard whilst working towards AAT, ATT and ACCA qualifications.
Trainees are recruited into two teams initially, ABS and Tax, where you will learn about our systems and start to gain experience. There are endless opportunities to develop your own career journey and find your specialism at Ashgates.
Money is crucial when starting out in your career, so as an incentive we pay for all professional study fees, exam entry and paid time off to study and sit your exams. On completion of each exam your hard work is recognised by receiving a first time bonus payment.
Each trainee we recruit is completely different from the next, we look for potential, confidence and passion for accounting. One thing all our people have in common is a determination to succeed in accountancy as it can take many years of studying and examinations. Your individuality is key, all our people are from different backgrounds and our interviewers have open minds. Inspire us at interview we can’t wait to be impressed!
Entry requirements:
- 5 GCSE’s graded 9 to 4/A* to C including Maths and English;
- 3 A levels with at least one subject with relevant transferrable knowledge (such as Maths, Accounting or Business) - equivalent to 96+ UCAS tariff points.

I am given a wide range of jobs to do, helping me to improve all the necessary skills to perfect my craft in the future. At Ashgates, everyone, from the managers to other trainees, make sure you are comfortable with the tasks and are always on hand to give you advice and support, whilst you work through them. There are people to talk to that are a variety of levels within their study and also those that have qualified.

Whilst being at Ashgates I’ve spent time in the tax department, I’ve helped out the audit department and even been out on site with them too and more recently I’m helping out with the corporate finance department. I enjoy gaining experience across a range of different departments within Ashgates.

I had been on work experience to a few other offices and I think the main difference is the office atmosphere, I always feel welcome and comfortable when talking to people of different experience levels, which I think helps me progress more as I never feel awkward to ask when I need help.

At Ashgates everything has been positive, my managers have been incredible in the support and trust they have given me, also I have a very good relationship with the Directors. In other firms you wouldn’t know much about the more senior staff, but here you do. Everyone is connected.
