There has been a surge in the amount of HMRC Number cloning recently where scammers will disguise themselves as HMRC in order to appear legitimate and attempt to get people to hand over money. These fraudulent calls will appear as a genuine number of HMRC but in actual fact will just be someone who is spoofing the number to appear to as them. HMRC has released a list of genuine contacts for themselves as well as how to identify phishing and fraudulent calls and emails. These can be found at the link below.
It is also important to recognise the signs of a potentially fraudulent call:
If you have any concerns about a phone call you have received say that you want to call them back to confirm it is a genuine call. If they say that this will result in any kind of penalty or legal action then this is not a genuine call, as HMRC will always agree to you checking they are a genuine caller. You can also contact us to get in touch with HMRC to check if they have really called you. Internet Link: HMRC Genuine Contact Comments are closed.
